The Race to Rescue 100 Workers Trapped in Nepal's Hydro Tunnels

Rescuers broke through into the upper section of the flooded tunnel at Upper Trishuli 3A on Saturday evening and started pumping air through the opening. Home Minister Sudan Gurung: "We have already started sending air through the small opening, and we will now begin excavation work." That is real progress. It is also not the same as reaching anyone. Nobody inside has been seen or heard from. More than 100 workers are believed to be alive across these tunnels — believed, not confirmed. This film is about what actually has to happen next, and why the engineering says it is so hard. The comparison that reframes it: Silkyara, in India in 2023, is the rescue everyone is thinking of — 41 men, 17 days, everybody out. The official Indian rescue presentation records the ground condition in four words: "No flowing groundwater encountered." Silkyara's plug was dry rock.
