TRIBUNJAKARTA.COM - The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has taken decisive action following the poisoning case involving hundreds of Islamic boarding school students in Sidoarjo, East Java. The BGN has proposed the removal and replacement of the Head of the Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) in Talang Angin, Kalitengah, Sidoarjo. This decision was announced by the Deputy for Monitoring and Supervision of the BGN, Dr. Ketut Sumedana, S.H., M.H., on Wednesday (September 2, 2026). In addition to proposing a replacement for the SPPG head, the BGN has also imposed a severe sanction of suspension on the SPPG for 30 days. Based on preliminary field investigations, 512 people have reportedly been exposed to the virus. Of these, 80 are still undergoing intensive care in the hospital. Meanwhile, 312 have recovered and been allowed to return home. The remaining 120 are still undergoing further observation. In handling this case, the BGN leadership stated that they have been in intensive communication with the local government. Coordination is also being carried out with Islamic boarding schools, as well as Madrasah Aliyah and Madrasah Tsanawiyah Manba'ul Hikam. In addition, BGN is conducting an internal investigation with the relevant Health Office to determine the cause of the incident. The results of the investigation will be officially announced to the public. Currently, BGN stated that its primary focus is ensuring the health of all students still undergoing treatment.
