JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV - Edy Wurianto, a member of Commission 9 of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), highlighted the alleged mass poisoning case of 516 Islamic boarding school students (Santri) in Sidoarjo after consuming the Free Nutritional Meals (MBG) program. He considered the repeated incidents a serious warning to the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) and demanded that the victims be handled optimally, including ensuring that medical expenses are covered by the government. Edy also urged that the SPPG suspected of being involved in the case be suspended and audited, while the head of the SPPI be questioned regarding the implementation of SOPs. He argued that MBG supervision cannot rely solely on the BGN but requires the involvement of the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM), local governments, the Health Office, and Community Health Centers (Puskesmas). He also requested that all poisoning cases be used as evidence-based evaluations to improve food safety standards, including SLHS and HACCP, and stated that Commission 9 would summon the Head of the BGN to discuss the matter thoroughly.
