China monitoring unstable, overflowing barrier lake with drones
China paused rescue operations on Aug 28 around Gyirong Port in Tibet after an upstream barrier lake began overflowing, reports state broadcaster CCTV. Hundreds remain missing two days after a deadly flood and landslide disaster struck Tibet and neighbouring Nepal. Chinese authorities are now using drones to monitor the lake, tracking its water levels and stability. Officials are also monitoring rainfall and modelling where floodwaters could flow if the barrier is breached. CNA’s Rebecca Metteo reports from Beijing.
