At 9:20 am on a Wednesday morning, Dawadi received an urgent call from a friend warning him that a nearby village had just been swept away by surging floodwaters triggered by a sudden glacier collapse. Although he initially thought his three-story concrete school was safe because it stood 60 meters above the river, the situation escalated rapidly when a parent rushed in to warn that the waters were rising at an alarming speed. Acting without hesitation, Dawadi sounded the school bell and instructed all teachers to immediately evacuate the classrooms. He also contacted the school bus drivers to intercept them and tell them to turn back. The students fled on foot to higher ground, with some taking shelter beneath a nearby bodhi tree, just minutes before the muddy torrents swept through and destroyed the school's buildings. While the floods claimed the lives of over 750 people in the region—including two school staff members who had tragically returned to their rooms near the river—Dawadi's split-second decision ensured the survival of all 1,643 children and his teaching staff.
