From herding cattle and learning to play a homemade guitar to carrying isiNdebele music onto national and international stages, Dr Nothembi Mkhwebane’s life is an extraordinary story of courage, determination and cultural purpose. She moved to Gauteng, worked as a domestic worker and used the money she earned to acquire instruments and develop her music. What began with a homemade guitar eventually became a career that helped place isiNdebele music and culture on the world stage.
