A Cranston officer pulled over 21 year old Teddy Lopez on a Thursday morning for not wearing his seatbelt. Lopez said the car was his cousin's rental and that he was headed to get an oil change. Asked if there was anything illegal inside, Lopez said he would be completely honest, just a little marijuana, maybe two ounces. Then the search started. Three phones and cash came out of the center console, a garbage bag of marijuana edibles turned up in the back seat, and behind a cup holder the officer found a hidden electronic compartment. Bodycam audio catches his reaction the moment it opens. Police say the compartment held 11 kilograms of cocaine, fentanyl powder and pills, more marijuana and $1,700 in cash, worth roughly $385,000. Lopez said he knew nothing about the cocaine and was arrested moments later. CASE OUTCOME: Lopez was charged with possession of cocaine over one kilogram with intent to deliver, two counts of possession of Schedule II narcotics under 10 grams, and possession of marijuana with intent to deliver. No plea was entered at the time of the initial reporting, and police said the investigation was ongoing because they believed more people were involved.
