The government of Abelardo De La Espriella has initiated a series of strict control measures in the prison system with the transfer of 20 high-risk criminals from Barranquilla. Among those subjected to this measure are known leaders of high-impact criminal organizations such as Los Costeños and Los Pepes. The transfer operation was carried out in complete secrecy by the INPEC special operations group, marking a new zero-tolerance policy against organized crime operating from within prisons. One of the most severe and controversial proposals of the Abelardo De La Espriella administration is the absolute isolation of prison kingpins through the implementation of prison ships equipped for use at sea. This strategy seeks to definitively neutralize the communications and extortion networks that these criminals maintain with the outside world. The implementation of these floating prisons is conceived as a temporary, maximum-security measure while the government moves forward with the structuring and construction of new mega-prison projects within the country.
