While Norway mourns the late and beloved King Harald V, his son has assumed the reins of power. In a solemn ceremony in front of Parliament in Oslo, the new King Haakon VIII swore his oath to the Norwegian Constitution. Unlike other monarchies, Norway has not held a lavish coronation since 1908; the oath marks the official beginning of the reign. Standing beside the new king was his daughter, the 22-year-old Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra. Conspicuously absent, however, was the new Queen Mette-Marit, who, according to the court, was unable to attend due to complications with her transplanted lung.
