Norway’s King Haakon VIII takes his Oath of Allegiance to the Constitution at the Storting in Oslo, following the death of his father, King Harald V. The ceremony includes King Haakon’s arrival at Parliament, the formal announcement of King Harald’s death and Haakon’s succession, the constitutional oath, the new king’s address and his departure from the Storting. Haakon became king immediately after King Harald died on August 28 at the age of 89. The oath is a constitutional requirement for Norway’s monarch and marks an important formal step in the new reign.
