TRIBUN-VIDEO.COM - West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi stated that the West Java Provincial Government will take over the construction of the Pongpet Suspension Bridge in Margacinta Village, Pangandaran Regency. This statement was made after the newly inaugurated bridge collapsed while several officials were crossing it on Sunday (August 30, 2026). The man, familiarly known as KDM, emphasized that the bridge issue no longer needs to be a debate over budget authority. The West Java Provincial Government understands the financial condition of the Pangandaran Regency Government, which is considered to be facing significant fiscal pressure. "The West Java Provincial Government also knows that the Pangandaran Regency Government is financially incapable of building a bridge. The fiscal pressure is severe, and the deficit is high," he said. Therefore, the West Java Provincial Government will take over authority for the bridge in Margacinta and immediately build a permanent bridge. The bridge's construction is planned to be included in the 2027 West Java Regional Budget. According to Dedi, the permanent bridge will be passable by vehicles and make it easier for people to transport various agricultural, livestock, fishery, and marine products. Smooth transportation is expected to stimulate economic activity and increase community activity in the surrounding area. Dedi also reminded that the bridge being built will not be used for racing. "We will immediately build a permanent bridge in Margacinta Village and its surroundings so that it can be crossed by cars and many people," Dedi said. As previously reported, the Merah Putih Bridge, also known as the Pongpet Suspension Bridge, collapsed as a group of officials passed by during its inauguration. In the incident, Pangandaran Regent Citra Pitriyami reportedly suffered bruises from the sudden collapse. Dedi then hopes that the construction of a permanent bridge can provide a solution to the mobility and economic needs of the residents of Margacinta Village and the surrounding area.
