A man driving with a license plate he created himself and credentials from the fictional territory of the "Republic of Lemuria" was arrested by Carabineros (Chilean police) in Lampa for falsifying a public document and concealing his identity. The Chilean citizen, who claimed to be a law student, was driving a vehicle whose original registration, he said, had been canceled. To replace it, he opted to create his own identification, invoking "natural law" with an interpretation that does not comply with Chilean legislation. After the police procedure, his peculiar "diplomatic representation" came to an end. "I'm being accused, harassed, and persecuted. I'm going to have to give up this natural law thing and this embassy thing because it's not respected," he lamented. When questioned about the geographical location of the territory he was representing, the driver detailed the unusual origin of the nation he used on his documents. "Physically, it's underwater; it's a continent that's underwater," the man explained regarding the location of Lemuria. The accused justified the invention of this nation as a personal resource to be able to travel after having his vehicle's official registration canceled. "I couldn't do anything without a license plate. So, I had to create my own, which is the logical thing to do," he recounted. He also detailed the operational limitations of possessing credentials from a submerged nation that doesn't exist for the State. "Unfortunately, the fictitious country is useless. I mean, it doesn't provide healthcare, it doesn't provide education, it doesn't provide anything. It doesn't exist for the system, but it does exist for me, to have an identity, which is the most important thing," he maintained. The man revealed that since 2022 he had used this system to travel to different parts of the country, including trips to the south, the north, the coast, and Santiago. He even recalled a previous incident where he was questioned by the Carabineros (Chilean police) for the same reason. However, the constant police inspections ultimately led to his resignation from representing the mythical submerged nation.
