A crime that has shocked Bogotá. William Rafael Martínez Alvarino, 45, received a conjugal visit from his partner on August 22nd in Pavilion 13 of La Modelo prison and, according to authorities, ended up murdering her there. The man turned himself in and confessed to the crime to the National Penitentiary and Prison Institute (INPEC). The most serious aspect: Martínez was already serving a 21-year sentence since 2018 for attempted femicide against this same woman in 2015, when he attacked her with a knife, inflicting more than 20 wounds. Days before this latest attack, he had requested house arrest. The Ministry of Justice ordered a review of INPEC protocols, and the Prosecutor's Office opened an investigation into prison officials.
