A price was put on her head. They threatened to break into her house, kill her son, and end her life. A month later, Helen Yuliana Silva Padilla was murdered with a gunshot to the head while at a restaurant in Pacasmayo, Peru. Helen Silva was a criminal defense attorney who for years defended people involved in serious crimes. She had opened her own law firm and, according to the known details of the case, began receiving death threats related to a former client and a dispute over money. The messages became increasingly terrifying. In one of them, she was warned that they could break into her house and was told there was a sum of money for her and her son. Helen also spoke with people who, according to her own account, were connected to those threatening her. But the threats didn't stop at words. On August 15, while she was with family and friends at a restaurant in Pacasmayo, a man arrived on a motorcycle, got off, and approached Helen. According to the investigation, he shot her point-blank in the head and fled the scene. David Dávalos Vázquez, 25, was later arrested and identified by authorities as a suspect in the murder.
