JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV - Young Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) activist Roy Murtadha touched on several government programs that he believes require input and evaluation, including the Free Nutritious Meals program. "If you can't be critical, at least provide input on state programs that have been problematic so far. The MBG program, for example, clearly endangers the fiscal sector and wastes the state budget, and its implementation is neither transparent nor accountable," Roy said. Roy admitted that he still congratulated the election of the new PBNU leadership, albeit with several caveats. Roy hopes NU will remain a force in civil society that is critical of the government. "As part of civil society, NU's involvement with the state should be critical, not tied hand and foot," he said. On the other hand, political observer Adi Prayitno assessed that the results of the 35th NU Congress were the result of ijtihad (religious decision-making) by ulama who hold important positions within the organization. However, Adi also emphasized the hope among NU members that the organization would return to its original principles and distance itself from practical politics.
