JOMBANG, KOMPAS.TV - Kyai Haji Abdul Hakim Mahfudz, also known as Gus Kikin, was elected Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU) for the 2026-2031 period at the 35th NU Congress. Gus Kikin was previously on the list of five candidates proposed by participants of the 35th NU Congress. The other four candidates were Zulfa Mustofa, Abdussalam Sochib, also known as Gus Salam, incumbent Yahya Cholil Staquf, also known as Gus Yahya, and Abdul Ghofar Rozin. After deliberation on the five proposed candidates, the nine members of the Ahlul Halli Wal Aqdi (AHWA) of the 35th NU Congress unanimously elected Gus Kikin as Chairman of the PBNU for the 2026-2031 period. On his mother's side, Gus Kikin is a descendant of the founder of NU and the Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School. Gus Kikin also continues to manage the Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School. He previously led the East Java Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PWNU) for the 2024-2029 period. After being elected Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board, Gus Kikin emphasized that NU is not a place for politics. Gus Kikin stated that NU is a religious and social organization with its own path. He also explained how Gus Kikin will lead PBNU going forward, after emphasizing that NU is not a place for politics.
