TRIBUNJAKARTA.COM — The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts the potential for heavy rain and strong winds in several regions of Indonesia on Thursday (September 3, 2026), even though most regions are still in the dry season. Based on monitoring Himawari-9 satellite imagery at 12:00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB) on August 31, 2026, the BMKG continues to detect hotspots with a high degree of confidence in several regions of Indonesia. The hotspots are primarily concentrated in Kalimantan, followed by Sumatra, Papua, and Maluku. This situation indicates that the potential for forest and land fires (karhutla) still requires vigilance, especially in areas experiencing relatively dry weather conditions. The spread of smoke is also still being monitored in several areas and has the potential to spread to surrounding areas following the direction of wind movement. On the other hand, minimal cloud cover during the dry season, especially from morning to afternoon, can increase surface heating and lead to an increase in maximum air temperatures.
