Alertas encendidas por alta actividad sísmica cerca del volcán Puracé

The Colombian Geological Survey is maintaining strict surveillance of Popayán, Totoró, Sotará, and Puracé after more than 600 earthquakes were recorded in the volcanic influence zone. Although the epicenter is located 11 kilometers from the Puracé volcano and degassing and deformation parameters remain stable, authorities are evaluating whether this activity increases the risk of a potential eruption. The seismic activity is concentrated mainly in the San Rafael sector of Totoró, where potential structural damage to homes is being assessed. Faced with uncertainty and latent fear, residents of the municipality are reporting anxiety and demanding the immediate provision of shelters, supplies, and equipment to safely cope with a possible emergency. The communities of Puracé and Coconuco are making a direct appeal to President Abelardo De La Espriella for timely support from the national government to avoid being left helpless in the event of a disaster.
