‘We want to find her’: Durban family hopes to travel to Nepal in search of missing daughter.

On the 26th of August 2026, a glacier collapse in the Himalayas unleashed a wall of water, mud and debris along the Nepal-Tibet border. The flash floods tore through villages, roads and bridges, killing hundreds and leaving more than a thousand people missing. Among those caught in the disaster are six South Africans. One of them is 33-year-old data analyst Terricia Govender from Isipingo Beach. Terricia had just celebrated her birthday and was on a solo spiritual pilgrimage when the floods struck. Today, the 28th of August, she was supposed to be on a flight home. Instead, her family is waiting for news and holding on to hope that Terricia is still alive as desperate search and rescue efforts continue. Newswatch sat down with Terricia’s family.
