Three years after the case that brought Laura Sarabia under scrutiny, the Prosecutor's Office is moving toward a key decision in her legal proceedings. The former presidential advisor to Gustavo Petro will be charged with abuse of public office, embezzlement, and illegal coercion—crimes that, according to available information, would disqualify her from receiving any benefits. The case dates back to January 30, 2023, when Marel Bismesa, then the nanny of Sarabia's son, was taken to Casa Galán, an intelligence building located across from the Casa de Nariño (Presidential Palace), to undergo a polygraph test regarding the disappearance of a suitcase containing money and documents. The investigation also involves the wiretapping of communications of Bismesa and another employee, as well as the case against members of the presidential security detail. Some officers have already been convicted, while Colonel Carlos Feria faces charges related to the case. One of the major developments came with the testimony of Captain Óscar Leandro Mojica, who received a plea bargain and claimed that the order came directly from Sarabia. The former official has denied giving that instruction from the beginning. Now, the Prosecutor's Office is preparing a request for a hearing before a judge of guarantees.
