“Southwest ABORT!” | Austin’s Terrifying Runway Close Call
Click Here For The Make A Wish Fundraiser: https://secure2.wish.org/site/TR/Wish... Retired JFK air traffic controller Kennedy Steve is joined by retired airline captain Captain Steeeve to break down one of the most serious runway close calls in recent years. On February 4, 2023, FedEx Flight 1432, a Boeing 767, was approaching Runway 18L at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in extremely low visibility conditions. At the same time, Southwest Flight 708, a Boeing 737, was cleared for takeoff from the very same runway. With dense fog preventing the tower from seeing what was happening on the runway, FedEx continued toward landing while Southwest began its takeoff roll. The FedEx crew ultimately initiated a go-around, passing frighteningly close to the Southwest aircraft below. Want to connect with Kennedy Steve?
