After the attack on the Christopher Street Day parade in Berlin, it quickly became clear: The perpetrator was classified as an Islamist threat. According to the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (Germany's domestic intelligence agency), there are almost 29,000 people in Germany with so-called Islamist potential and 410 Islamist threats. Among other things, they all share a hatred of LGBTQ people. The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution speaks of queerphobia as an "integral component of all Islamist ideologies." In our documentary, we meet Tugay, a former Salafist. He joined this Islamist movement to "cure" himself of his homosexuality. He says: Germany must finally stand up against Islamism—and also against the queerphobia behind it. But for many other believers without Islamist leanings, homosexuality and Islam are incompatible.
