In his address, Afenyo-Markin paid tribute to outgoing Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga, describing him as a respected friend and saying he would “dearly miss” their usual banter on the floor of Parliament. He also congratulated incoming Majority Leader James Agalga on his new role. Afenyo-Markin also addressed the GoldBod extortion allegations, challenging those behind the claims to report the matter to the police or the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP). He said he is prepared to submit himself to any investigation if invited. The Minority Leader further quoted former US President Theodore Roosevelt’s “Man in the Arena” speech, saying the Minority is fortified by the words and will remain resolute. He accused the government of attempting to “terrorise the Minority into submission”, insisting that the government’s actions do not amount to a genuine pursuit of justice.
