According to an IRGC public relations statement, the attack targeted the headquarters and residence of a US commander at Ali Al Salem Air Base. The IRGC said this attack was in retaliation for a US attack on a residence in Sirik, southern Iran. The IRGC stated that the location bombed by the US was actually hosting a wedding reception for a young Sunni Muslim couple.
