The merger between the House of Representatives' Centrist Reform Alliance and the House of Councillors' Constitutional Democratic Party and Komeito has been postponed. The Centrist Reform Alliance was formed just before the House of Representatives election. Its seats fell sharply from 167 before the election to 49. While all Komeito members were elected, several prominent Constitutional Democratic Party members lost their seats. After the House of Representatives election, discussions continued regarding a merger on the House of Councillors side, but due to policy differences with the centrist party and opposition from local organizations, the merger was postponed.
