This episode pairs two single-engine turboprop power-loss events from July 26, 2024. The headline case is the Pilatus PC-12 charter near Recluse, Wyoming, carrying members of the Grammy-nominated Southern Gospel group The Nelons en route to the Gaither Homecoming Cruise to Alaska. All seven on board — including Kelly Nelon Clark, Jason Clark, Amber Kistler, and Nathan Kistler — died when the airplane went down minutes after a fuel stop. With the PC-12 investigation still developing publicly, the video uses a second accident from the same day as a parallel case study: an Ayres S2R-G6 turbine ag plane near Antioch, Nebraska. The pilot reported a total loss of engine power about seven miles from the destination at roughly 500 feet AGL and put the airplane down in a pasture, striking a fence on rollout. Both wings sustained substantial damage. The pilot walked away. The Ayres investigation became a study in how hard fuel-contamination cases can be to close. Fuel samples pulled from the airframe and engine filters showed a brown tint, with minor debris in the airframe filter. Corrosiveness and water-soluble component checks came back within spec, but the sample volumes were too small to complete volatility and contaminant testing. A post-accident engine run on clean fuel showed no engine anomalies — the powerplant itself was fine. The NTSB concluded the engine lost power due to fuel contamination from an undetermined source, a finding that puts the spotlight on fuel-handling discipline, sumping, and source-of-supply awareness rather than on the airframe or engine.
