Inspection of the Damaged Aquino and Agana Bridges

Tarlac City, Tarlac September 2, 2026 After heavy flooding caused by the enhanced southwest monsoon (Habagat), President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. inspected the damaged Aquino Bridge and Agana Bridge in Tarlac City, Tarlac on September 2, 2026. The Aquino Bridge, measuring 306.60 meters in length and 9.54 meters in width, and the Agana Bridge, measuring 166.6 meters in length and 9.54 meters in width, sustained damage, with a section of each bridge swept away by the strong flow of water. The President was briefed by Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vivencio ‘Vince’ Dizon on the condition of both bridges. At the Agana Bridge, President Marcos Jr. inspected the ongoing construction of a temporary Bailey Bridge to restore connectivity in the area. He said the temporary bridge is expected to allow pedestrian crossings within one (1) week and light-vehicle traffic within two (2) weeks, with vehicles weighing 10 tons or less initially allowed to cross. To expedite the rehabilitation of the damaged bridges, the President said in a media interview that the national government will provide Php300 million to the local government unit (LGU) for the construction of the Aquino Bridge. He emphasized the need to accelerate repairs, noting that the current alternative route through Gerona is considerably farther for residents and motorists, and that the Bailey Bridge at the Agana Bridge will initially accommodate only light vehicles.
