US oil company North American Blue Energy Partners (NABEP) will take control of some oil fields previously held by various Chinese companies and a Russian company, two US officials told Reuters on Monday (31). The acquisition will be part of a broad oil production deal that President Donald Trump announced with Venezuela, they said. According to the officials, the projects were among 14 contracts recently awarded to North American Blue Energy Partners (NABEP), a US-backed company. NABEP was previously owned by US oil magnate Harry Sargeant and is now controlled by Venezuelan businessman Alejandro Betancourt.
