Fernando Verkovic, from the Law and Territory program at ACIJ, analyzed data from the Permanent Household Survey and explained that in some of the main urban centers, the number of renting households has grown by more than 50% in relative terms over the last two decades. This trend also affects older people: there are increasingly more Argentinians over 60 who continue to rent, and among those over 65, renters remain employed at a considerably higher rate than homeowners. Why has buying a house become so difficult? The rising value of urban land, wage growth, and decades without sustained access to mortgage credit appear as some of the contributing factors.
