SURYA.CO.ID - Berton SP Panjaitan, Acting Head of the Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), revealed that the number of hotspots due to forest and land fires in Kalimantan continues to increase. "In West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, and South Kalimantan, the number of hotspots has increased relatively. In West Kalimantan, the increase is significant, while in South Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan, it has decreased relatively," said Berton in an online press conference on Monday (August 31, 2026). Berton explained that the increase in hotspots in West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, and South Kalimantan has reduced visibility to only 1-2 kilometers. "If we look at the hotspot data in these three provinces, we find an increase in hotspots, and visibility is approximately 1 to 2 kilometers," he said. Meanwhile, in Riau, South Sumatra, and Jambi provinces, hotspots have decreased relatively, while hotspots have increased in South Sumatra. "From the previous 209 hotspots, the number has now increased to 1,013. Meanwhile, hotspots in Riau and Jambi have decreased significantly," he said. Visibility also varies, between 4 and 5 kilometers in Riau and South Sumatra, while in Jambi it's around 7 kilometers.
