Balochistan: The Price of Regime Change 2.0? | Shahid Qazi Reveals the Ground Reality with Adil Raja
Is Balochistan about to become the decisive battleground in Pakistan's next political and geopolitical transformation? Following my disclosure from a highly placed Pakistani military source regarding an alleged plan by Field Marshal Asim Munir to eventually assume the Presidency while retaining military power, one enormous question remained: Could such a plan actually work on the ground? And nowhere is that question more important than Balochistan. For this special 40-minute discussion, I am joined by Shahid Qazi, an experienced journalist with more than two decades in broadcast and digital media who has reported on politics, security, human rights and regional affairs across Pakistan and Afghanistan. A Political Science graduate from the University of Karachi, Qazi previously worked with NBC News (USA) and ITV News (UK) and now works as an independent journalist covering South Asia, with a particular focus on Balochistan, democracy and human rights. This is not a conventional discussion about Balochistan. We examine the province through the emerging US-China great-power rivalry and ask whether Pakistan's political transformation can be separated from the battle over geography, ports, minerals and regional access. We discuss: • The real balance of power inside Balochistan • Whether Islamabad actually controls the territory to the extent outsiders assume • The practicality of Asim Munir's alleged political plan • The alleged US-Pakistan strategic bargain and what remains unverified • Why Gwadar matters to both China and the West • Balochistan's enormous mineral potential • China's investment and strategic exposure through CPEC • America's growing interest in critical minerals and regional connectivity • Iran, Afghanistan and the Arabian Sea • Baloch nationalist politics and armed resistance • Pakistan Army's security dilemma • Whether greater foreign involvement could intensify the conflict • What Western policymakers misunderstand about Balochistan • And the extraordinary on-ground insights Shahid Qazi says are missing from the international conversation The allegations concerning a US-backed political transformation or an agreement involving Balochistan, Gwadar or Pakistan's resources have not been independently established and are discussed as source claims, not proven facts. But the geopolitical competition surrounding Balochistan is very real. 🇵🇰 Pakistan 🇺🇸 United States 🇨🇳 China 🇮🇷 Iran 🇦🇫 Afghanistan All have interests intersecting in or around one of South Asia's most strategically important — and unstable — regions. If Pakistan is being redesigned, can Balochistan really be treated as something Islamabad simply has available to bargain with? Watch the complete conversation with Shahid Qazi.
