The Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) arrested 322 people in connection with the riots during the demonstration on August 27th. Of these, 273 have been released. "The other 273 have been released," said Polda Metro Jaya Public Relations Chief, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, to reporters on Tuesday (September 1, 2026). Budi explained that 49 of them have been named suspects. He stated that 44 suspects are being handled by the Polda Metro Jaya Criminal Investigation Directorate (Ditreskrimum), and five children in conflict with the law are being handled by the PPA and PPO Directorate. "Therefore, the latest data used as a reference is 49 suspects out of a total of 322 people detained," he said. Commissioner Budi previously stated that a group of rioters arrived in front of the MPR/DPR building after the protesters dispersed. He continued, the group also threw several objects at security officers. "After the series of aspirations conveyed ended and most of the crowd left the location, a group of rioters emerged, disrupting public order and security, attempting to commit destruction, vandalism, and throwing objects at officers," Budi said in a press conference at his office in Jakarta on Friday (August 28th). He said officers were able to handle this group of rioters and took action against those who committed the destruction.
