What followed was an enormous complex of houses, bunkers, tunnels, theatres and military infrastructure, concealed among the Bavarian Alps. At its centre stood the Berghof, Hitler’s 30-room mountain residence. Behind its walls, he received foreign leaders, held meetings and made decisions that would shape the course of the Second World War. After the war, the significance of the site made it a target for destruction. Much of the complex was deliberately demolished. So we went back to the original plans, photographs and historical records, spending countless hours researching and reconstructing the entire Obersalzberg complex.
