Nigeria’s Reserves Rise $7.09bn As Naira Strengthens
Nigeria’s external reserves have risen by $7.09 billion since the start of 2026, reaching $52.66 billion as of August 19, according to the latest CBN data. The 15.6 per cent increase has strengthened Nigeria’s external buffer and coincided with improved foreign exchange liquidity and a firmer naira. Analysts attribute the reserve buildup to stronger dollar inflows, including oil earnings and investment inflows. Oladipo Ajayi, Head of Fixed Income and Forex at Chapel Hill Denham, joins the conversation.
