Unlike the city of Dandong, this North Korean border town isn't used to foreigners, and the authorities took a special interest in us. As a common place North Koreans attempt to cross in to China when escaping, this area is sensitive. But with travel to North Korea still restricted we wanted to get as close to the country as possible, and nowhere else can you get as close to North Korea than here in Tumen, where the two countries (and two completely different worlds), are separated by the small Tumen river.
