The rule is defined as follows: At the break shot, any of the following conditions must be met: • Three object balls (excluding the cue ball) have at least half of their diameter (or more) crossing the head string; or • One object ball is pocketed and two object balls have at least half of their diameter crossing the head string; or • Two object balls are pocketed and one object ball has at least half of its diameter crossing the head string; or • Three or more object balls are pocketed. An object ball that crosses the line and is pocketed shall be counted as two balls crossing the line. If the break shot does not meet the above requirements, it is deemed a Break Loss of Opportunity. In such case, the incoming player may choose one of the following options: (a) Accept the table layout as it lies and allow either themselves or the breaking player to continue shooting; (b) Require a re-break, to be taken by either themselves or the breaking player; (c) The time allowed for the incoming player to decide whether to continue play or request a re-break is 45 seconds, during which no time extension is permitted. In addition, a legal break must cause at least four object balls (excluding the cue ball) to contact one or more cushions. Failure to meet this requirement constitutes a break foul, handled as follows: 5.3 Break Fouls (a) If the first object ball contacted is not the 1-ball, or if the cue ball is pocketed or leaves the table, the break is ruled a foul. The opponent is awarded ball-in-hand anywhere on the table. (b) If, due to an unintentional soft break, fewer than four object balls contact a cushion, it is ruled a foul. The opponent may choose to: • take ball-in-hand and continue play with the balls in their current positions; or • request a re-break, either by themselves or by the original breaker. (c) If an obvious intentional soft break results in fewer than four object balls contacting a cushion, it is ruled an intentional foul, and the opponent is awarded +10 points. 5.4 Pocketing the 9-Ball on the Break (a) If no foul occurs, the breaker is awarded a Table Run (Small Gold) (see Section 6.1). (b) If a foul occurs, the 9-ball is re-spotted on the foot spot, and the opponent receives ball-in-hand, continuing play with the existing table layout. 6. Match Format 6.1 Scoring System Golden Nine matches adopt a points-based scoring system, using the cue ball and object balls numbered 1 through 9. Players must strike object balls in numerical order from lowest to highest. Match points are calculated based on Break and Run, Table Run, Standard Win, and Fouls: • Break and Run: 10 points • Table Run: 7 points • Standard Win: 4 points • Foul: 1 point awarded to the opponent Definitions: Break and Run: The breaker legally breaks and clears the table in the same inning. Table Run (any of the following situations): (1) After pock、eting a ball on the break, the breaker clears the table in one uninterrupted inning and pockets the 9-ball by combination or carom; (2) When only the 1-ball and 9-ball remain on the table during non-break play, and either player clears the table (pocketing the 9-ball mid-run does not count as a Table Run); (3) The 9-ball is pocketed on the break; (4) All nine object balls are pocketed on the break. Standard Win: Any other situation in which a player wins a rack. Foul Scoring: For the first and second fouls committed by a player within a rack, the opponent receives 1 point per foul. If a player commits three fouls in the same rack, the third foul awards the opponent 2 points, and the rack ends immediately.
