Katelyn Goble was convicted on August 31, 2026 of all five counts in the death of Morgan Bauer, a 19-year-old reported missing in March 2016 whose remains were not recovered until 2023. The jury deliberated just over an hour and returned guilty on malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, tampering with evidence, and concealing the death of another. Katelyn Goble was convicted on all five counts on August 31, 2026. THE CASE IN BRIEF Morgan Bauer was 19 and dancing in Atlanta clubs when she was reported missing on March 12, 2016. Katelyn Goble was also 19 then, working the same clubs. The State said Goble befriended her, offered her somewhere safe to sleep, and drove her out to Porterdale in Newton County, to the home of her 26-year-old boyfriend's parents. It said the two of them killed her there and destroyed the remains in the woods behind the house. Bauer's family looked for her for seven years. Jonathan Alexander Warren, the boyfriend, pleaded guilty in January 2024 and is serving life without parole. The State said in its opening that it did not intend to call him, and the jury decided this without hearing from the one person who had already admitted to it. What opened the case is Goble herself. Her ex-husband came forward during their 2023 divorce with what he says she confessed to him. A documentary producer and a private investigator both pressed her. Then on July 11, 2023 she walked into a police department in Peoria, Illinois and gave a voluntary statement, the first of several, each conceding more than the last. Those recordings were the spine of the State's case.
