KOMPAS.TV Police are still investigating the cause of the death of a mirror seller, Bambang Setiawan, in Pejompongan during the riots following the demonstrations on August 27, 2026. In a press conference, the Head of Public Relations of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, explained that police are analyzing video footage on social media to uncover the alleged assault against Bambang Setiawan. The video footage circulating on social media has also provided clues for the family to identify the victim. Meanwhile, the Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD) found several oddities during the August 27 demonstrations. TAUD believes there was a mysterious group with specific characteristics suspected of attempting to escalate inter-community conflict. Based on these findings, TAUD is urging the National Police to thoroughly investigate the alleged violence that killed Bambang Setiawan and injured a 12th-grade student in Pejompongan. In connection with the riots on the night of August 27, police have named 45 suspects in connection with the destruction of public facilities.
