In March of this year, two boats carrying students from Doshisha International High School on a school trip capsized off the coast of Henoko, Nago City, killing Chika Takeishi (then 17 years old) and the captain. On the evening of the 30th, the high school held an information session for parents before the start of the new semester. An apology was offered for the delay in contacting parents after the accident, due to inadequate communication systems and insufficient instructions and confirmations from the current principal. When asked by a reporter whether the explanation was satisfactory, one parent replied, "Not at all. There were a lot of 'under consideration' responses." They also added, "The most painful thing is that we still haven't seen a sincere response from the school."
