The state of Hesse estimates the total cost of the Frankfurt Rhine/Main Plus program package at around 20 billion euros. The Frankfurt long-distance rail tunnel alone was estimated at around 3.6 billion euros in the feasibility study, based on 2018 prices. However, the projects are also subject to criticism: long planning phases, rising costs, and significant disruptions during construction.
