Inside the Investigation: How Police Foiled a Violent Home Invasion in Vaughan

On November 22, 2024, chaos erupted on Ventura Way in Vaughan when multiple armed suspects forced their way into a home in a violent home invasion. A neighbor witnessed the scene unfold—suspects entering aggressively, one brandishing a firearm—while two getaway vehicles waited outside. York Regional Police officers arrived within minutes, intercepting both suspect vehicles. One vehicle rammed a police cruiser in an attempt to flee, while the other was stopped in a second collision. Several suspects fled on foot but were swiftly apprehended. Inside the home, the homeowner was found injured. In the basement, officers confronted more suspects who were actively drilling into a safe. After ignoring commands and attempting escape through a basement window, the suspects eventually surrendered. York Regional Police's Canine Unit and Air Support Unit joined the effort to search for additional suspects. Seven arrests were made on scene; an eighth suspect was tracked down and arrested later in Brampton.
