Amidst a wave of Russian attacks on Kyiv, the Ukrainian capital, the New York Times reported that Kyiv could be in its "most dangerous situation" since the initial chaotic period following the Russian invasion. According to Kyiv regional authorities, 12 people were killed in Kyiv and the surrounding area on the 1st as a result of Russian attacks. Ukrainian Railways, the state-owned railway company, confirmed that a ballistic missile attack targeted Kyiv's railway facilities, and that six of the dead were railway employees. Russian forces have been carrying out waves of drone attacks on Kyiv in recent days, and while attacks were previously mainly at night, they are now occurring during the day as well. The New York Times pointed out that the attacks on Kyiv are largely using high-speed jet-powered drones, making interception difficult.
