Isabella of Portugal - The Woman Who Held An EMPIRE Together?

This compilation brings together some of my older videos on Isabella of Portugal, one of the most important but often overlooked women of the sixteenth century. Best known as the wife of Charles V and mother of Philip II, Isabella was far more than a decorative empress. During Charles’s long absences, she acted as regent in Spain, managing government, diplomacy, finance, family politics and the pressures of a vast Habsburg empire. Her story is one of power, duty, exhaustion, and the reality of ruling from behind the throne.
