This week, the real renovation begins. We started removing the old tatami floors and quickly discovered rotten timber, damaged floorboards and some very strange things hidden underneath them. We also continued clearing years of overgrowth from the property — which led to another problem we weren't expecting... wasps (or possibly hornets) everywhere. Despite the surprises, we're finally starting to see just how much potential this old Japanese farmhouse has, and for the first time we can really picture what it could become.
