JIST reporter Medha visited Dharavi, Asia’s largest slum, where over 1 million people live in just 590 acres. She explored the harsh realities of life in Dharavi and listened to the struggles of its residents, who continue to live in inhumane conditions with minimal access to basic facilities. The Dharavi Redevelopment Project has become a significant issue. It promises in-situ homes of 350 sq. ft. for those who have lived there since before 2000, while others are offered ₹2.5 lakh under the PM Awas Yojana to secure housing elsewhere.
