‘An apology is not enough’: Burnham pressured to sanction Israel

“An apology is not enough,” said Chris Nineham, founder of Stop the War coalition, calling on UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham to do more to sanction Israel. Itamar Ben Gvir, Israel's national defence minister, said in a podcast interview on Saturday that "30, 40, 50" Palestinians should be executed a night in Gaza in "targeted assassinations". He made several genocidal statements including calling for the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from Gaza and calling on Israeli settlers to completely settle the besieged enclave. The far-right minister's comments were subject to widespread condemnation, with even Chancellor Friedrich Merz of Germany calling them "inhumane". A coalition of groups supporting activism for Palestinian rights from the UK released a statement calling on Burnham to take action against him and the state of Israel as it continues its genocidal war on Gaza.
