Agnes Wanjiru: The British Soldier, The Murder & 14 Years Without Justice

Agnes Wanjiru was only 21 years old when she disappeared from the Lion's Court Hotel in Nanyuki, Kenya, in March 2012. Two months later, her body was discovered inside a septic tank. In this episode, we revisit the tragic murder of Agnes Wanjiru and the 14-year fight for justice that followed. Agnes was a young mother, daughter, sister and friend. Her five-month-old daughter, Stacy, was left to grow up without her mother while Agnes's family spent years demanding answers. The case eventually drew international attention because of allegations involving British soldiers who were in Nanyuki at the time of Agnes's disappearance. A 2019 Kenyan inquest found that British soldiers were responsible for her death, while later media investigations raised further questions about what soldiers may have known about what happened. In 2025, former British Army combat medic Robert James Purkiss was arrested in the United Kingdom in connection with Agnes's murder and extradition proceedings followed. As of 2026, Purkiss remains accused and continues to contest extradition. He denies murdering Agnes. But the questions surrounding Agnes's death remain. Who was responsible for her murder?
