Our 6 Secret Accommodation Strategies for Long-Term Travel
Do you travel and you want to spend a month in one destination without paying expensive hotel prices? After five years of full-time travel, we've learned that Airbnb is only one of many ways to find comfortable, affordable accommodations for slow travel around the world. In this video, we share 6 strategies we've personally used to find places to stay for a month or more—including what we paid, what worked, and when each strategy makes the most sense. Slow travel is a major part of our full-time travel lifestyle. We want a kitchen, laundry, living space, Wi-Fi, and enough room to feel at home—while keeping our travel costs under control. Our 6 strategies: 1. Airbnb — Landskrona, Sweden How monthly discounts and searching a wider geographic area helped us find an excellent apartment at a great price. 2. Local Property Manager — Riga, Latvia How working directly with a property management company helped us find an affordable monthly rental—even during peak August travel season. 3. Personal Recommendation — Chania, Crete How a Facebook nomad group connected us with a property owner and helped us find a great deal. 4. House Sitting — Australia Our go-to strategy for five months in Australia—exchanging pet and home care for wonderful accommodations. 5. Booking.com + Direct Booking — Fethiye, Turkey How we used Booking.com to find a property and then worked directly with the property manager. 6. Finding a Property in Person — Poros, Greece How viewing properties months in advance allowed us to negotiate a long-term, off-season rental and see the property for ourselves. The biggest money-saving lesson?
