The potential visit of King Felipe VI to Ceuta has become the latest focus of political controversy. The People's Party (PP) is demanding that the visit take place as soon as possible and accuses the government of delaying it, while the Prime Minister's office denies any veto and maintains that it believes the time has come for the King to travel to the autonomous city. Vox and Podemos, for different reasons, are also criticizing Sánchez for the open debate surrounding the visit. The last monarch to visit Ceuta was Juan Carlos I, in 2007, a visit that provoked a diplomatic crisis with Morocco and the temporary withdrawal of its ambassador from Spain. Now, Rabat has not officially commented on the possible trip by Felipe VI, although some Moroccan media outlets are wondering if it could reopen that conflict.
