'IF YOU'RE OVERWHELMED, RESIGN' – MSGR OBIORA IKE TO NIGERIAN LEADERS

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the leadership of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) met in a closed-door meeting which has continued to generate debate across the country. The debate is in the wake of comments by Cardinal John Onaiyekan on the engagement and the Presidency’s response to it. In this edition Msgr. Obiora Ike, Religious Leader and Founding Director of the Catholic Institute for Development, Justice and Peace (CIDJAP), discusses the problems created by the presidential visit and the larger relationship between government and religious institutions in Nigeria. The discussion comes after the presidency condemned Cardinal Onaiyekan for revealing the details of the meeting to the press, with presidential aides saying such talks are meant to be private.
